Mater Nurses

The Central Queensland mining and agriculture town of Moranbah takes the spotlight – on May 2 – for our ongoing Community Healthy Hearts awareness program.

And it marks a milestone for the recently-announced Heart of Australia and Mater Hospital(s) partnership to work towards healthier hearts for all far-flung Queensland communities.

It’s all part of the official National Heart Week activities from April 30 to May 6.

Founder Dr Rolf Gomes will be onboard the Heart of Australia travelling clinic in Moranbah today for our regular cardiology services and will be joined by two key professionals from the Mater Mackay Hospital. Nurse Unit Manager at the Mater Mackay, Donna James, who can boast 40-plus years of medical experience and her colleague Dan Giumelli, from the Mater Mackay Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit.

They’ll be in Moranbah to help visitors to the Heart of Australia road clinic, offering advice and information on everything about heart health – including warning signs of heart attack, stress management, exercise, nutrition, risk factors, chest pain management and how people can be “heart aware”.

So, we’re inviting everyone in the communities our “Heart Truck” visits to use Heart Week to get better acquainted with how to know when your heart needs help!
