A CARDIAC clinic-on-wheels known as the Heart of Australia will roll into Charters Towers next week.

The clinic is visiting fortnightly on Mondays and Tuesdays to provide locals with specialist cardiac care.

It is also stopping in Hughenden on Saturdays and Sunday, just before it heads to the Gold City.

A service started last year by Brisbane cardiologist Dr Rolf Gomes, the Heart of Australia works to bring cardiac services to rural and remote communities.

Its 25m-long custom-designed clinic-on-wheels, driven by a prime mover, delivers a team of medical specialists around the state.

The purpose-built, self-sufficient trailer provides two private clinic rooms, a testing room and a reception area for patients.

It is wheelchair accessible and fully-air-conditioned.

The Heart of Australia provides cardiology and respiratory medicine, so you will need a referral from your GP to make an appointment.

Once you have a referral from your GP, call the clinic on 3162 5310 or email reception@heartofaustralia.com.

The truck will be at the Defiance Mill Park on June 8-9, June 22-23, July 6-7, July 20-21, August 3-4, August 17-18, September 31-August 1, September 14-15, September 28-29, October 12-13, October 26-27, November 9-10, November 23-24 and December 7-8.
