Dalby Students Meet Dr Gomes
Arrow Energy, the foundation partner of the Heart of Australia program, hosted a special event for Year 10 Health Education students from Dalby State High School. The visit provided students the opportunity to learn more about healthy lifestyle decisions and the work of Heart of Australia in their local community.
The group of 24 students enjoyed a tour of the 25m long clinic and learn about the operations of the Heart of Australia program.
Teaching them was program founder and cardiologist, Dr Rolf Gomes.
“It’s wonderful to be able to meet these students and educate them on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, to limit their chances of developing cardiovascular and other related diseases” Dr Gomes said.
The students and their school teacher Mr Cameron Miers expressed a very keen interest to learn more about the “heart bus” and related health topics such as physical activity, obesity, nutrition and chronic disease. They were fortunate enough to also hear from experienced chronic disease management specialists and “life champions” from Goondir Health Services Dalby.
“It is fantastic to talk to these young people, answer their questions and spread the message about heart health in their town” Dr Gomes said.
